Ute Selbig

Leading soprano of the Dresden Semperoper, Ute Selbig, enjoys renown for a radiant voice, superb musicianship and dramatic conviction. She has appeared with The New York Philharmonic, the Chicago, Seattle, Milwaukee, San Diego and Indianapolis Symphonies and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra as well as all the important European orchestras.

Her celebrated Mozart interpretations include Fiordiligi, Contessa, Donna Elvira, Pamina and Ilia, the latter two and three others also at the San Diego Opera enjoyed particular success. She received further accolades in Strauss’s Arabella as Zdenka at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Zurich Opera and the State Opera House Munich, and in the title role of Puccini’s Suor Angelica in Dresden. Ute made her Canadian Opera debut as Fiordiligi with the Vancouver Opera. She has been celebrated for her performances as Wagner’s Freia and her spectacular debut as Eva (Meistersinger) in the Semperoper.

Ms. Selbig appears with the Dresdner Staatskapelle, Leipziger Gewandhausorchester, Turin Radio Orchestra, Dresden and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Wiener Hofmusikkapelle, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de France and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and at the Leipzig, Dresden, Luzern, Kissingen and Ludwigsburg festivals. Distinguished collaborators include Sir Colin Davis, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Kent Nagano, Fabio Luisi, Peter Schreier and Franz Welser-Möst.

She performed in Japan with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Dresden Kreuzchor and again in 2004, 2008 and 2012 with the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Thomanerchor Leipzig.

Ms. Selbig was awarded the Christel-Goltz-Preis of the Dresden Semperoper and the title of “Bachpreisträgerin” in Leipzig’s International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition and she was named “Kammersängerin”, the highest honour for a singer in Germany and Austria.
